AXS Center Training Day

For years our clients have described our services as the JNR Difference.  Our commitment to service has always set us apart and that is no different when it comes to our AXS Center powered by JNR. Our Customer Experience team members are fully trained, including hands on instruction specific to each program.  This not only gives our staff the confidence in their work, but it also gives our callers an added assurance that they are working with someone that really understands their particular issue.  Showing empathy is something we insist on in our AXS Center.  Solidifying a solid connection with the caller ultimately leads to an efficient resolution that leaves everyone feeling positive about the experience.

Our dedication to thorough training is why our clients continuously trust us with their most valued assets- their customers.

Immigrant Heritage Month at JNR

#ImmigrantHeritageMonth   #IAmAnImmigrant   #IHM2016

June is Immigrant Heritage Month, and the #IAmAnImmigrant campaign has launched to encourage all of us to explore our individual heritage & recognize our distinct and shared experiences. We all have our place in the American story, whether as a new immigrant, native to this land, a descendent of slavery or those who came to our nation seeking a better life.

This campaign began three years ago to recognize that almost all of us come from families of immigrants and, in fact, America was founded on the strength and perseverance of immigrant communities.  Now, more than ever, it is important to demonstrate how America’s diversity, fueled by immigrants and Native Americans, makes us stronger and more connected as a nation.

Throughout this month, individuals will be exploring their lineage and celebrating both diversity and our shared American heritage by telling their distinct stories, which will comprise a uniquely American narrative. To learn more, visit these websites: Welcome.us and http://www.iamanimmigrant.com/.

At JNR, we understand that diversity encompasses many characteristics including age, gender, ethnicity, culture, education, personality, sexual orientation, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs and a multitude of other ideologies and attributes.

Embracing differences and realizing a diverse collection of skills and experiences creates a rich company culture, provides us all with opportunities to learn and provide services to clients on a global basis. The value we place on diversity and ensuring a welcoming and inclusive work environment can be seen by the way we interact with our clients, suppliers, each other and the communities in which we live and work.

We are dedicated to creating and maintaining a welcoming environment that is conducive to cultivating employee ideas. We have developed a diverse team and a culture of openness and honesty, in which we treat each other with the respect we all deserve.

We encourage diversity in the workplace and inspire all of our employees to express their ideas and opinions and perform to their highest ability, and we attribute a sense of equal value to all. We respect individual rights to self-identification, and we recognize that no one culture is intrinsically superior to another.

JNR’s core mission is to help our clients grow their businesses and we know that by employing a workforce as diverse as our client base we will be better positioned to continue developing solutions that meet our clients’ needs.

We take pride in supporting and protecting diversity because, by valuing individuals and groups free from prejudice, and by fostering a climate where equity and mutual respect are fundamental, we will help make our world a better place.

What is Memorial Day?

Memorial Day is an American holiday observed on the last Monday of May, which honors our U.S. military men and women who died while serving our nation and protecting our freedom.

Memorial Day was officially proclaimed by General John Logan on May 5, 1868 and was observed on May 30 when flowers were placed on the graves of both Civil War Union and Confederate soldiers who were buried at Arlington National Cemetery. In 1968, Congress established Memorial Day as the last Monday in May; the change went into effect in 1971. The same law also declared Memorial Day a federal holiday.

Memorial Day is a time to enjoy the company of family and friends and to celebrate our nation’s freedom. However, it’s a lot more than a day off from school or work, it is one of the most significant holidays we have, a day of remembrance, especially if you or a family member has served our country.

Our U.S. Armed Forces go where they are sent and deserve our full support.  Memorial Day is a time to remember all those Americans who have fought in the past to keep our country safe and free. It is a day to honor and respect those who have died.

Children observe and retain far more than they are given credit for and they need to know the true meaning of this day. So, this year, while surrounded by family and friends, take a moment to teach the meaning of Memorial Day. Let children know what this holiday means to you and why it means so much to our nation’s history, and our military families. Talk and reflect on those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Spend time teaching children about patriotism and why we celebrate our nation’s freedom.  Memorial Day activities can have a long lasting impact and give young children a greater appreciation for our country. Building a sense of pride with patriotism is important!

No matter your political views, military heroes deserve our respect. There are many ways to teach children to honor our nation’s defenders.  Children know that people die and explaining that some die while bravely protecting others gives meaning.  You’ll find that children will be interested in learning about history and how important it is to recognize our heroes; to remember them with honor and respect the ultimate sacrifice they have given to protect America and our freedom.

In the morning, fly our flag proudly at half-mast, a position reserved only for days when the entire country is in mourning, and raise it high at noon to honor the living. Then gather at 3:00 PM to silently observe our National Moment of Remembrance.  When informed, kids will understand the importance of keeping quiet for this minute.

Memorial Day is about remembering those who have given their service and their lives for our country, but there are soldiers in the field right now. Thousands of American men and women soldiers are serving in danger zones overseas. Many are lonely, afraid, they miss home and the comforts of little things like magazines, snacks, personal hygiene products, paper and pens, and cheery letters and pictures. There is no better lesson in American citizenship than having a child write a letter to a deserving soldier. Think of ways to contribute to today’s veterans. Go to http://www.anysoldier.com/index.cfm and https://www.dav.org/ to see how you can help.

Don’t allow children to think that Memorial Day is just another day off school or just another holiday. Teach children the history and importance of Memorial Day and remember our past American heroes together.  What you teach them today will make a difference tomorrow.

Bringing a CSR Element to Your Incentive

Last month Points of Light Foundation encouraged people to share their stories for National Volunteer Week.  This week was dedicated to recognizing those that volunteer their time and resources to better others in communities near and far.  Support poured in from the President, Congress, Leaders and community groups across the country.  At JNR we see first hand the impact that service projects have, not only on the recipients, but also on the volunteers themselves.

Incorporating a Community Service element into an Incentive program is a wonderful way to give back to the community that hosts your once-in-a-lifetime event. Although these Incentives are a time to celebrate the hard work of your top achievers, we have found that to give people the opportunity to spend a day bettering the lives of others further enhances the overall experience.

JNR Incorporated understands the importance of volunteerism and encourages clients to bring in an element of corporate social responsibility to their program. Corporate social responsibility, also known as CSR, refers to a business practice that involves activities that benefit a segment of society. From revamping a school in Mexico, to building a playground for children in the Caribbean, to packaging “essential packs” for families in need here in the U.S., JNR with our DMC and Tour partners make many programs meaningful for both our clients and the community with a custom CSR day.

Regardless of your approach, volunteerism is about inspiring people to find ways to help their community.  Although the experience is usually gratifying enough, week long events like National Volunteer Week recognize those who do this and give them a forum to post about their experiences and to share ideas and stories of what they have done to give back.

Working with an Incentive partner like JNR can help your organization create a culture of good will for your next big meeting or trip.  However, if you want to create something for your company as a whole, not just those joining you on an Incentive program, advancements in technology and social networking have made giving back easier than ever. Below are a few simple ways to make your mark:

  • Donate money / goods to a favorite charity
  • Visit your local animal shelter
  • Give blood at a blood drive
  • Plant a community garden
  • Assist at an elementary school
  • Volunteer at a retirement home
  • Clean trash from the beach
  • Work with kids with special needs
  • Teach a class at a local community service center
  • Organize a food drive

Mark your calendars for next year’s National Volunteer Week April 23-29, 2017 and notice the lift in morale amongst your employees. Contact JNR for information on bringing a CSR element into your next Meeting or Incentive program and see the impact that experience has on your top performers, overall employee engagement and ultimately, your bottom line.

Meet Your Way to Fitness

Health and fitness is emphasized now more than ever before. With the abundance of processed food and stationary jobs, it is essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle to counteract the effects of the environments we live and work in. Lack of time is one of the biggest obstacles the working population faces when it comes to fitness, especially when employees are traveling for business several times a year. It can be very difficult to find an effective wellness routine when you are on the road. Luckily, many companies and meeting planners understand this struggle and are beginning to incorporate health and fitness into the business travel work environment.  Studies show that a healthy workforce is equivalent to increased profitability and productivity.  In addition, your organization will see a high-performance staff with minimal healthcare costs- all positive factors to your bottom line.

Below are some ideas to help keep your employees and attendees healthy and active while on-site.

Provide healthy food options

A healthy diet is the key to any wellness routine. However, while traveling and working, we may find ourselves making less than healthy choices. This is why it is important to provide well-balanced meal options for attendees. According to nutritionist Kasey Brixius, in order to maintain energy and focus during meetings, it is essential to include lean protein, quality carbohydrates and healthy fats in every meal and snack. An easy way to do this is to provide build-your-own-meal stations that cater to different preferences. The breakfast stations can include a build-your-own yogurt parfait, while a salad bar is a great option for lunch or dinner.

Incorporate fitness activities

Fitness classes are a fun and unique way to keep attendees active. The Spa at JW Marriott Chicago recently announced the hotel’s first wellness program, “Fit Meetings,” which is actually tailored for meeting and events. Fit Meetings includes 3 breakout “meeting enhancements” which include meditation, strength training, and yoga based stretching sessions. For those who want to take their fitness to the next level, the program offers private wellness classes including scenic runs, fitness orientations and nutrition courses. If your program does not allow the time to include classes like these, even allotting for small breaks of aerobic activity will help energize the brain and the body.

Choose an active location

Choosing an active location is an easy way to keep attendees on their feet. According to Carolyn Blackburn, there are several fitness options throughout the Pacific Northwest. Portland, Oregon provides hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails. Portland is also the home of Forest Park, containing over 80 miles of trails. “Meeting attendees love its paved trails for a quick walk or bike ride,” says regional communications manager for Travel Portland, Alacia Lauer. Another fitness friendly location is Seattle, Washington. “Wellness is part of Seattle’s core,” says Kelly Sailing, Director of Convention Services at Visit Seattle. Seattle’s Convention Center is home to several healthy eateries, making it easy for attendees to pick up a quick nutritious bite to eat while on the road.
